Six state troopers were suspended with pay today as prosecutors investigated a 25-year-old woman's allegations that she was sexually assaulted by a group of men, including at least one trooper, authorities said.
The woman, who has been identified as a college student, said she was assaulted early Friday morning at a residence in Ewing, Mercer County.
"There have been no charges filed," said Angelo Onofri, the first assistant prosecutor for Mercer County. "The investigation is still in its preliminary stages."
The woman was treated Friday morning at a local hospital and a report was later filed with law enforcement officials, Onofri said.
"It is alleged that one or more of the individuals involved may have been state troopers," Onofri said.
Capt. Al Della Fave, spokesman for the state police, said superintendent Col. Joseph "Rick" Fuentes had authorized the suspensions pending the results of the investigation.
He would not identify the suspended troopers.
