The Philadelphia Union soccer team will play its first home game at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Eagles, officials said today.
The move is dictated both by a lagging construction schedule at the team's new waterfront arena, now being built in Chester, Pa., and by the desire to open the historic first game to as many fans as possible.
The first home game will be played April 10th at 3:00 p.m. against a team that seems sure to become a major rival, D.C. United.
The Union plans to limit ticket sales to the lower bowl and club sections, totaling about 37,500 seats.
A formal announcement was expected to be made soon by the Union, which takes the field as Major League Soccer's 16th team in spring 2010.
