Five men were shot within a single hour last night, two of them fatally.

The slayings brought to six the number of homicides since Monday morning.

Last night's first homicide happened in South Philadelphia shortly after 9 p.m. Qwentay Barton, 18, of the 1500 block of South Taylor Street, was found shot the back in the 2400 block of Morris Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene less than a half-hour later.

The second killing may have happened during a robbery around 9:30 p.m. in Kingsessing. Ivan Williams, 20, was outside the house next to his residence in the 5400 block of West Trinity Street when he was shot several times. He was pronounced dead at 9:59 p.m. at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Four .40-caliber shell casings were recovered at the scene, police said.

Earlier, at about 8:40 p.m., three men were wounded in an apparent drive-by shooting in the Harrowgate neigborhood of Kensington. Two unknown men fired from in a metallic-gray or tan minivan, perhaps a Pontiac or Ford, in the 3500 block of Emerald Street, police said.

The victims were all in stable condition at Temple University Hospital. One, 39, was shot in the left hip. Another, 29, was shot in the buttocks. A 26-year-old was shot in the abdomen.

No arrests had been made in any of the shootings as of this morning, police said.
