Officials evacuated the Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School in South Philadelphia after a student brought a hand grenade – later determined to be fake - and left it out front this morning, police said.

Police were questioning the student, but it is not yet clear if he will be charged with something more serious than bad performance art.

The discovery of the novelty item on the sidewalk in front of the school on the 2600 block of South Broad Street prompted police to evacuate the charter call in the Bomb Squad.

The charter's students and faculty were taken to the A.S. Jenks Elementary School on the 2500 block of South 13th Street until the all clear was sounded just before 9 a.m.
