Quick acting emergency workers helped avert tragedy in making two rescues in the city in little over an hour this morning.

In the first, a man jumped into the Delaware River near the Hyatt Hotel at Penn's Landing about 9 a.m.

As a half-dozen Fire Department vehicles rushed to the scene, a police boat plucked the man from the water.

Medics took him to Jefferson University Hospital in serious condition.

At 10:10 a.m., firefighters responded to the Frankford Elevated Line station at Kensington and Allegheny Avenues for a woman who fell on the tracks.

Fortunately, no train was entering the station and there was time to halt service on the line.

Firefighters from Engine 7 and Ladder 10 got the woman, who was conscious, off the tracks and medics took her to Temple University Hospital to be examined.
