Poll: Corbett favored, global warming feared

Thanks to his handling of monster-storm Sandy, during which he was seen as a calm presence on statewide TV, Gov. Corbett has gained a bump in his voter-approval rating, according to a post-election poll by Quinnipiac University.

Forty percent of Pennsylvanians approve of the job he is doing and 38 percent do not, the poll found. It's the first time since March that Corbett's numbers have been "in positive territory," pollsters said.

The poll also looked at voter opinions on the issue of global warming.

Sixty-three percent of voters are "very concerned" or "somewhat concerned" about global warming - 82 percent of Democrats and 36 percent of Republicans, Quinnipiac said. By a 51-43 ratio, voters said Sandy itself was not caused by climate change.

A total of 74 percent of Pennsylvania voters say President Obama's response to Sandy was "excellent" or "good," compared to 61 percent for Corbett, the university said.
