Man critically injured in hit-and-run

An unidentified man was critically wounded Monday night after being struck by a car that fled the scene in West Philadelphia, police said.

Shortly before 9 p.m. in the first block of South 59th Street, the man was crossing the street when he was hit by a Volvo station wagon, police said.

The victim, described as about 25 years old, was taken by police to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with head and internal injuries, police said. - Robert Moran
