Change is coming: Get used to area code 445
The 445 overlay for area codes 215 and 267 is coming this weekend.
Area code 445 was first proposed in 2000 as an overlay with area codes 215 and 267, but then delayed by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission until this year.
So, beginning Saturday, new phone lines or services may be assigned numbers with the 445 area code.
According to Verizon, the change does not usually affect service or rates, calls now considered local will remain local, and customers with a 215 or 267 area code will retain their numbers.
The overlay covers all of Philadelphia and parts of Berks, Bucks, Lehigh, and Montgomery Counties.
