Police ID suspect in Center City sex assault, robbery

Police have identified a suspect who allegedly sexually assaulted and robbed a man on Wednesday after meeting the victim through a smart phone dating app.

Police have identified a suspect who allegedly sexually assaulted and robbed a man on Wednesday after meeting the victim through a smart phone dating app.

Investigators are looking for Douglas Spady, 26, of the 5200 block of Cottage Street in Frankford.

Police said a 34-year-old man in town for an educational conference met Spady through GRINDR, an iPhone app that uses GPS to connect men with potential nearby matches.

The man invited Spady to his room at the Hilton Home2Suites at 12th and Arch streets, according to investigators. When Spady arrived, he allegedly told the victim he had a gun and sexually assaulted him.

Police said he then forced the victim to withdraw a total of $1,000 from five ATM machines. He also allegedly made the victim buy four $500 Visa gift cards.

The victim was able to escape Spady after the two arrived at the Irish Pub, near 20th and Walnut streets, police said.

Court records indicate that Spady, who police said also goes by the name Douglas Casey, has a fairly lengthy rap sheet spanning several counties.

Spady has been convicted of unlawful use of a computer, theft, writing bad checks and access device fraud in Erie, Indiana and Philadelphia counties, according to court documents. He was in July sentenced to three to 12 months in jail after pleading guilty to forgery in Philadelphia.

Anyone with information on Spady's whereabouts is asked to contact the Special Victims Unit at 215-685-3265 or to call 911.
