A 60-year-old man was charged with murder Thursday in the fatal shooting of another man less than 24 hours earlier in Philadelphia's Strawberry Mansion section, police said.

Michael Davis was taken into custody shortly after officers responding to a call for a person with a gun found Roderick Jones, 50,  with a gunshot wound to the chest about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 3000 block of Fontain Street, where Davis lives, police said.

Highway Patrol Unit officers, with information identifying Davis as the shooter, found him on the 3200 block of Fontain Street and arrested him.

Jones, of the 1900 block of North 23d Street, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:53 p.m., authorities said.

Police did not say whether investigators had established a motive.

Davis was charged with murder and related offenses and ordered held without bail after a predawn hearing. His next court date has been set for Aug. 30.
