Elm Street Bridge reopens in Conshohocken today

A Conshohocken bridge reopens today, a year after the formerly structurally deficient structure closed for repairs.

PennDOT says the restructured Elm Street Bridge over Plymouth Creek and the Cross Country Bicycle Trail will open this afternoon.

Construction began last December on the bridge, which carried nearly 7,000 vehicles per day.

The bridge's deck, beams and center pier were removed and replaced over the past year, and a retaining wall along the bike path was built, PennDOT said. Drainage improvements were also part of the $3.1 million project.

"We are excited to reopen Elm Street and to provide our customers with a safe, modern bridge that will serve their transportation needs for decades to come," PennDOT District 6 executive Lester Toaso said in a statement.
