I-95 South reopens in South Philadelphia

Southbound lanes of Interstate 95 have been reopened South Philadelphia after debris was cleared from the roadway.

PennDOT said the highway reopened just before 2:30 p.m. All southbound lanes had been closed between exit 19 (Interstate 76/Walt Whitman Bridge) and exit 17 (Broad Street) while officials removed the debris.

It wasn't immediately clear what the material was or how it got on the highway. Images from PennDOT traffic camers and television news stations showed what appeared to be scrap metal on the road, though its source wasn't clear.

The debris caused traffic jams and delays in the area.
