A 38-year-old Winslow man faces multiple charges after a hit-and-run accident Wednesday that killed a 12-year-old boy. Michael Repko, 38, of South Route 73, is charged with assault by auto, driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident and related offenses.
Najeeb Green-Lewis, of Winslow, died yesterday afternoon at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, officials said. The boy suffered extensive internal and external injuries in the crash, which happened shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday on Watsontown-New Freedom Road. Police say the youth was riding an electric scooter southbound on the shoulder of the road when Repko swerved and struck him. Authorities allege that Repko was drunk and driving erratically.
After the collision, authorities said, Repko failed to stop and drove to a remote area, trying to hide damage to his Chevrolet Cobalt. He then drove to the Golden Nugget Tavern on Route 720 and later took a taxi to his home, where he was arrested. Repko was being held in the Camden County jail on $250,000 bail. The investigation was continuing.
