City reviews housing policy with eye toward inclusion

Mayor Street ordered a review of city housing programs Monday with the purpose of establishing an "inclusionary housing" policy that could require builders to include affordable and low-income housing options in new developments.

Mayor Street ordered a review of city housing programs Monday with the purpose of establishing an "inclusionary housing" policy that could require builders to include affordable and low-income housing options in new developments.

A 25-member working group chaired by Councilman Darrell L. Clarke and Secretary of Housing Kevin Hanna will make recommendations to the mayor by September so related legislation can be introduced and passed before Street's term expires.

The group - which will include developers, City Council members, community development officials, labor representatives, and others - will also research inclusionary zoning policies in other cities. - Patrick Kerkstra
