Two women have been arrested after they were found inside an SUV that crashed through a Philadelphia cemetery and caused an estimated $100,000 in damage, a police spokeswoman said yesterday.
Kisha Carthon, 21, was the alleged driver of the white Dodge Durango that knocked down about 15 headstones at the Greenmount Cemetery in Feltonville shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday, said Officer Christine O'Brien.
Carthon was charged with drunken driving and other offenses. The passenger in the Durango, Ernestine Vega, 25, who is the SUV's owner, was arrested and charged with related offenses.
O'Brien said a detective in the rear parking lot of the nearby Major Crimes Auto Squad heard a crash in the cemetery and went to investigate.
The detective found the two women inside the heavily damaged Durango, O'Brien said. The driver appeared to be intoxicated.
The cemetery's caretaker estimated the damage at about $100,000, O'Brien said.
A woman who answered the phone at the cemetery said no one was available to comment.
