Weekend toll: 5 killed around city
Four men were shot to death; four were wounded by gunfire. A woman was found dead in her home.
It was a deadly weekend in Philadelphia, with five people killed around the city.
Yesterday, one man was shot to death in West Philadelphia and three others were injured.
The shooting happened just before 3 a.m. near 60th and Girard, according to police, who said that four men, who were allegedly arguing over a woman, were taken to hospitals.
One of the men, described as 36 years old, was pronounced dead at 7:07 a.m. at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Police Department spokeswoman Officer Tanya Little said two men were in critical condition and one was in stable condition last night.
One of the wounded has been charged with the murder, police said. Authorities have not released the names of those involved.
On Friday night, a 64-year-old woman was found dead in the Crescentville section of Northeast Philadelphia, allegedly killed by a man who had been living with her.
Jocelyne Defay, of the 5900 block of Hasbrook Avenue, was discovered wrapped in linens and wedged between her bed and a wall. She had been bleeding from her head.
Investigators said she had been dead in her home for at least three or four days. Gerry Jean, 20, who also lived there, was arrested and charged.
On Saturday morning, Robert Stone, 50, of Hunting Park, was found shot to death near Roosevelt Boulevard and Old York Road shortly before 5 a.m.
Stone had been shot in the head, chest and stomach and was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no suspects or motive as of yesterday.
On Saturday afternoon, a 19-year-old man was shot in the abdomen after getting into a fight with three men at Chew Street and East Chelten Avenue in East Germantown. Kenneth Wiggins, of the 1900 block of Unruh Street, was pronounced dead at 1:05 p.m.
Police were still seeking the three other men.
On Saturday night, a man in his mid-20s died after being shot in the chest in North Philadelphia.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was with a 26-year-old man in the 2600 block of Silver Street at the time of the shooting. The victim died at Temple University Hospital at 6:41 p.m.
The second man was also shot multiple times and was in stable condition at Temple. Police have no suspects or motive, they said.
