Abuse by Aaron McKie alleged

Aaron McKie's former common-law wife alleged in a protection-from-abuse order that the ex-basketball star threw her to the ground and threatened to kill her.

Aaron McKie's former common-law wife alleged in a protection-from-abuse order that the ex-basketball star threw her to the ground and threatened to kill her.

The order stemmed from an incident Sept. 27, when McKie got into an argument with Kianna Williams. The order alleges McKie threw Williams to the ground and shouted at her, "I want you dead. I promise I'm going to kill you."

McKie was ordered to stay away from Williams in an order that expires Sept. 26. The two share custody of their young daughter.

That 2007 protection-from-abuse (PFA) order that prohibited McKie from "possessing, transferring or acquiring firearms" was in place when he filled out the forms in April to buy a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun and a 9mm Ruger handgun from Abington Gun Sports in Upper Moreland Township.

McKie's lawyer said yesterday that McKie failed to read the PFA and the application for the guns closely. "He really quickly read the application, assumed it was only related to criminal offenses, and checked 'no' " to a question about restraining orders, said Brian McMonagle, his attorney.

"He was stunned he didn't get the gun," said McMonagle, noting his client could have waited until the PFA expired in September to avoid problems.

McMonagle said while his client had not received threats, the former 76er had applied for the handguns because he was worried about his safety.

Monday the one-time NBA sixth man of the year surrendered to state police and was arrested for trying to buy the guns. He was released on $50,000 bail, and a hearing was set for July 3.

In the court order, Williams stated when she was dropping off their child at McKie's Narberth home Sept. 23, an argument over a school uniform escalated.

According to the order, McKie grabbed Williams under her arm, picked her up, and threw her onto the bricks in front of his house, injuring her wrist and finger.

Williams, of Havertown, then stated in the order that McKie said he was going to kill her.

Police were called to the home, McKie was handcuffed, and Williams was treated at Lankenau Hospital for her injuries, according to the court document.

In 2001, the details of another protection-of-abuse order were disclosed in a Delaware County courtroom when Williams alleged McKie punched her. The blow dislocated her jaw, and bruised her face and neck, according to court papers.

The 2001 order was vacated when McKie agreed to stay away from Williams, and a settlement was reached.
