A 25-year-old man was shot to death in the city's Nicetown section yesterday morning, and shootings overnight left three people critically injured, police said.

The man, identified by police as Anthony Mahoney, was sitting in a chair outside his home in the 4400 block of North Chadwick Street when he was shot once in the head before 6:53 a.m., when someone called 911 to report the body, police said. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene at 7:08 a.m.

Homicide Lt. Phillip Riehl said that the victim's hands were folded and that he appeared to have been sleeping when he was shot, possibly a few hours before the 911 call.

There was no earlier report of gunfire, Riehl said.

"He was a respectful young man. Never no problems," said neighbor Bernadette Graham, adding that the victim lived with his godmother and some others in the rowhouse.

"He made sure the bills were paid. Kept the porch clean and barbecued a lot," she said.

Earlier, a triple shooting was reported at 12:44 a.m. in the 4000 block of Glendale Street in Juniata Park, police said.

A 19-year-old man was shot twice in the abdomen, in the thigh, under an arm, and in his left foot. He was taken to Temple University Hospital and listed in critical condition.

A 26-year-old man was shot in the chest and was also reported in critical condition at Temple. A third man, 29, was shot in the thigh and was listed in stable condition.

At 1:42 a.m., a 15-year-old boy was reported shot in the back in the area of 53d and Reinhard Streets in Southwest Philadelphia. He was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was listed in critical condition.

No arrests were reported in the shootings.
