Young man drowns trying to save friend

A young man drowned Wednesday after he jumped into the Delaware River to help a friend, police said. About 6:15 p.m., the 18-year-old jumped into the river in Pennypack Park, at 7900 State Rd., when an 18-year-old woman fell into the water, police said. The 18-year-old man and a cousin rescued her, but then the 18-year-old man went under and did not resurface, police said.
