Construction on the Platt Bridge, which carries Penrose Avenue (Route 291) over the Schuylkill near Philadelphia International Airport, will restrict traffic to one lane in each direction for two years starting Feb. 20, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said Wednesday.
The $43 million project will mean regular delays for motorists and occasional closures of the bridge in the early morning, PennDot said.
The four-lane bridge carries an average of 56,000 vehicles a day.
The work will include painting, resurfacing, and repair of expansion joints and concrete piers.
