Five people apply to replace departing commissioner
WEST CHESTER Five people have applied to fill County Commissioner Ryan Costello's seat when he resigns on Dec. 15.
Costello won the Sixth District congressional race in November and has been splitting his time between Chester County and Washington.
He is scheduled to be sworn in as a member of the U.S. House on Jan. 6.
Because Costello is a Republican, his replacement on the county Board of Commissioners also must be a Republican, according to Pennsylvania law.
Chester County Court judges will interview the candidates at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in Courtroom 1 of the county Justice Center.
Costello's replacement will finish his term, which expires in early 2016.
The successful applicant will join Commissioners Terence Farrell, a Republican, and Kathi Cozzone, a Democrat.
Voters will elect a commissioner for a full term next November.
