Chinese New Year to be celebrated
MALVERN The Main Line Chinese Culture Center will mark the Chinese New Year on Sunday at its annual gala, which attracted more than 1,000 people last year.
To celebrate the Year of the Goat, the nonprofit is inviting area residents to learn about Chinese culture, history, and language at an afternoon of events at Great Valley High School.
Performances, from 1 to 3 p.m., will include Chinese folk dances, traditional Chinese music, and a martial-arts demonstration.
The culture fair, from 3 to 5 p.m., will feature games and crafts, including calligraphy.
"It's a time to enjoy and experience another culture and have fun with it," said Xia Li, who founded the center in 2003.
The Main Line Chinese Culture Center offers basic language classes and courses in traditional Chinese art forms through weekend and summer classes throughout the Philadelphia region.
The center has held a gala to celebrate the new year every year for more than a decade.
