Man arrested after allegedly taking jersey from Halladay memorial
A man was arrested and given a citation Thursday for taking a Roy Halladay jersey from a memorial created by fans outside Citizens Bank Park.
A man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of taking a Roy Halladay jersey from a memorial created by fans outside Citizens Bank Park, police said.
"We did take a person into custody after a [police] K9 officer observed a male take a jersey from the memorial, and place it under his jacket" around 4:30 p.m, said police spokesman Sgt. Eric Gripp. "The male was chased down by the officer, who recovered the jersey."
There was some internal discussion about what crime was committed if the jersey was left at the memorial by a fan and it no longer had an owner, Gripp said.
The man, who was not identified, was taken to the Third Police District headquarters, given a citation for disorderly conduct, and then released.
The jersey was returned to the memorial for the former Phillies pitching legend, who died Tuesday in a plane crash in the Gulf of Mexico.
