Two unattended backpacks found near the Boston Marathon finish line were detonated Tuesday night, and a man was in custody, though it was not clear if charges were pending.
The Boston Globe, citing a police spokesman, said the backpacks were detonated "for precautionary reasons.'' Officers detonated one of the backpacks at 9 p.m. A loud boom near the finish line jolted bystanders who watched the activity on Boylston Street. The second bag was detonated at 9:30.
Police had evacuated the area to investigate the backpacks, sending a tweet for people to stay away. Trains bypassed a nearby station. - APEndText
