W. Philadelphia man shot, killed in his home

A 30-year-old West Philadelphia man was killed about 1 a.m. yesterday by armed men who burst into his home in the 700 block of North 42d Street, dragged him into the basement, and shot him in the head, police said.

Police said a witness told them the invaders tied up Rodney Smith, who is listed as the owner of the three-story house, before they killed him.

The killers stole some items from the home, but it was unclear whether theft was the motive for the killing, police said. No arrests had been made as of late yesterday.
