Police officer shoots, kills man in East Germantown

A police officer struck by a vehicle opened fire and fatally wounded the driver Wednesday night in Philadelphia's East Germantown section.
Shortly before 8:40 p.m., the officer fired at the driver in the area of Nedro Avenue and Opal Street, police said. The driver, who was not further identified, was transported by police to Einstein Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his head.
He died Thursday morning.
The officer suffered a non-life-threatening injury, police said.
Before the gun discharged, a woman in the car was injured when it struck several parked vehicles.
The incident was being investigated by Internal Affairs.
Police said more information is expected to be released Thursday.
