Jack Stollsteimer dropped out of the Pennsylvania Attorney General's race Wednesday, narrowing the field of Democratic candidates.
A former state and federal prosecutor from Delaware County, Stollsteimer is now backing Montgomery County Commissioner Josh Shapiro.
"At this point it just wasn't my year," Stollsteimer said in an interview. "I'm happy to support Josh because he's a really good friend and public servant."
Stollsteimer was among the first to enter the race, challenging incumbent Attorney General Kathleen Kane. Kane is facing a criminal perjury charge and had her law license suspended.
In addition to Kane and Shapiro, two officials from Allegheny County - Stephen Zappala Jr., the D.A., and David Fawcett, a former county councilman - and Northhampton County District Attorney John Morganelli are seeking the Democratic nomination.
State Sen. John Rafferty, who represents Montgomery County, is running for the Republican nomination.
