An unidentified teenage boy was hospitalized in critical condition after getting shot in the head late Wednesday afternoon in the city's Oxford Circle section, and a suspect has been apprehended, police said.
About 4:25 p.m. in the area of Bustleton and Magee Avenues, a Second Police District officer witnessed an 18-year-old man fire shots at the teenager, said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
The victim, who may be 16 years old, was found unresponsive lying on the sidewalk and was taken by police to Aria Jefferson Health-Torresdale Campus, Small said.
The suspect was chased by police and apprehended in the 2200 block of Unruh Avenue. A semiautomatic handgun was recovered in the 6500 block of Bradford Terrace. Multiple spent shell casings were found a few feet from where the boy was shot.
"It appears he is the intended target," Small said.
