Joseph F. Daino, 75, a retired Philadelphia police officer, died of complications from lung cancer Oct. 29 at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla. He lived in Wesley Chapel, Fla.

Born in South Philadelphia, he attended what is now Edward W. Bok Technical High School and served 31/2 years in the Coast Guard.

He was a Fairmount Park guard from 1960 to 1972. When that unit merged with the Philadelphia Police Department, said his daughter-in-law Phyllis Daino, he took an assignment at the Police Academy until his 1980 retirement.

Then, for 15 years, he was a security guard at Harrah's casino in Atlantic City.

Mr. Daino loved to draw and paint historical landmarks in Philadelphia and in Cape May, N.J. He was an avid Phillies, Eagles and Flyers' fan and enjoyed old movies, listening to Frank Sinatra and being with old friends

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Ellen; sons Steven, Mark, Joseph, Jimmy, Michael and Tony; daughters Alicia Ott and Helaina Fleming; a sister, Angelina Daino; a brother, Emilio Daino; 26 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

A life celebration is to take place 1 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Northeast Assembly of God, 3502 Stanwood St., Philadelphia.
