Sasha Lynn Barris, who worked in the entertainment and TV industry in New York City, a strong supporter of the arts and an artist herself, died Saturday.
She was 73 and lived in New York.
Sasha battled lung cancer with courage and determination, never complaining, never even talking about the disease, her family said.
She was the sister of Robert P. Levy, prominent local sportsman and businessman.
She attended the Stevens School in Philadelphia and Bradford College in Massachusetts.
After moving to New York, she married Chuck Barris, producer and host of game shows, including the "Gong Show," "The Dating Game," the "Newlywed Game" and others.
Sasha worked with her husband in the TV entertainment field. The marriage ended in divorce.
"She was a lovely lady," said Levy, a longtime executive in the horse-racing industry and owner of winning thoroughbreds.
"She was very charitable, but kept to herself in recent years. She was an extraordinarily private person."
Sasha was an active supporter of the Jewish Museum in New York, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Moore College of Art and other causes.
She enjoyed painting, mostly landscapes, but never exhibited her work.
"She had a few close friends," her brother said. "She had a good life."
Her daughter, Della, died about 10 years ago.
Services: Will be private.
Donations may be made to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Ave., New York NY 10065.
