George W. Hadley, 92, of Springfield, Delaware County, a retired auditor and World War II veteran, died Thursday, Nov. 4, at home.

Mr. Hadley grew up in Southwest Philadelphia. He played varsity baseball at West Philadelphia High School and later played with the Kingsessing Aces, a semipro team.
After graduating from high school, he joined the auditing department at Pennsylvania Manufacturers Association Insurance Co. in Philadelphia, where he met his future wife, Mildred Mulholland.
During World II, Mr. Hadley served in the Navy in the European and Pacific Theaters. He was a chief petty officer aboard the heavy cruiser Tuscaloosa when it participated in carrier strikes in Norway and in the invasion of Normandy. He was still aboard when the ship took part in the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
Mr. Hadley returned to the insurance company after his discharge and took classes at night at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He retired as director of auditing for Pennsylvania Manufacturers in 1982. He was past president of the State of Pennsylvania Audit Society.
Mr. Hadley and his wife moved from Philadelphia to Upper Darby in 1952. An Eagle Scout, he was scoutmaster of a troop in Upper Darby and a softball manager for the 69th Street Athletic Association.
A 50-year Mason, he was past president of the Upper Darby Square Club and a district deputy grand master for Delaware County.
His hobbies were bowling, golfing, and genealogy. He had researched the life of his great-grandmother Lillian Hadley, an actress who appeared in Broadway theaters in the late 19th century.
Mr. Hadley's wife of 58 years died in 1999. He is survived by a son, Richard; daughters Wendy Glovier and Lorraine; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at Covenant Methodist Church, 212 W. Springfield Rd. Springfield. Friends may call at 10 a.m.
