Curtiss J. Jones Sr., 76, an accountant and the father of City Councilman Curtis J. Jones Jr., died of lung cancer Wednesday, June 29, at Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse.

The councilman's Fourth District covers parts of Overbrook, Wynnefield, East Falls, Manayunk, and Roxborough.
Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Jones earned an associate degree in 1953 at William Penn Business Academy, now at Broad and Master Streets, and studied accounting at Temple University.
Mr. Jones served in the Air Force in the 1950s, the councilman wrote in biographical material, and while stationed in England, he fought the Connecticut middleweight Willie Eaton in a Britannia Shield Boxing Tournament.
In 1980, Mr. Jones ran unsuccessfully as an uncommitted delegate for a seat at the Democratic National Convention.
His daughter-in-law Jazelle Jones said in an interview that Mr. Jones coached the Wynnefield Hawks, a track team, and supported the Wynnefield Residents Association.
Besides his son, Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Sandra; another son, Keith; two brothers; five sisters; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his former wife, Barbara Jones.
A viewing was set from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, July 2, at Pinn Memorial Baptist Church, 2261 N. 54th St., before a 10 a.m. funeral service there, with burial to be private.
