James Hart, Teamsters local official for 42 years
James M. Hart Jr., 86, of Pennsauken, a Teamsters local officer for 42 years, died of complications from heart disease Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Kennedy University Hospital in Cherry Hill.
James M. Hart Jr., 86, of Pennsauken, a Teamsters local officer for 42 years, died of complications from heart disease Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Kennedy University Hospital in Cherry Hill.
Born in Camden, Mr. Hart graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1944 served as a Marine infantryman in 1945 and 1946.
A son, Gregory, said that Mr. Hart worked for the Camden Courier-Post, the Bulletin, and The Inquirer as a mailer, assembling newspapers for delivery.
Mr. Hart joined the Newspaper & Magazine Employees Union in 1950 when its office was in Center City, his son said, and when it became Teamsters Local 1414, now based in Old City, he became its secretary-treasurer.
He was a union member for more than 60 years, his son said.
Besides his son, Mr. Hart is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mabel; son Stephen; a sister; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Visitations were set for 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, and 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Funeral Home of Inglesby & Sons, 2426 Cove Rd., Pennsauken, before a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Peter Church, 43 W. Maple Ave. Merchantville.
