James T. McVeigh Jr., 71, of Voorhees, owner of the Payroll Accounting Co. in Moorestown from the early 1980s until 2011, died of melanoma on Wednesday, July 16, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
James T. McVeigh Jr., 71, of Voorhees, owner of the Payroll Accounting Co. in Moorestown from the early 1980s until 2011, died of melanoma on Wednesday, July 16, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Born in Drexel Hill, Mr. McVeigh graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School in 1961 and earned a bachelor's in accounting at St. Joseph's University in 1966, son Kevin said in an interview.
He served as an Army officer until 1969, with service is in West Germany.
Mr. McVeigh was a member of the parents' council at St. Joseph's in the early 1990s and president of the parish council in the 1980s at St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Gibbsboro, where he helped to raise funds to build the church.
He also was a president of the Moorestown Rotary Club.
Besides his son Kevin McVeigh, he is survived by his wife of 32 years, the former Sharon Shemonsky; stepmother, Kathleen; sons Brian McVeigh and Michael Shemonsky; daughters Anne Shemonsky-Hackett and Jodee Shemonsky-Vallone; two sisters; and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his former wife, Susan McVeigh.
A viewing was set from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 21 at St Andrew the Apostle Church, 27 Kresson-Gibbsboro Rd., with a Funeral Mass there at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 22, and interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Berlin.
