Donna Lee Brown Kasuba, 70, of Millville, N.J., who taught religion for public school students at Sacred Heart Church in Winslow Township in the 1980s, died of ovarian cancer on Sunday, July 31, at home.
Her husband of 46 years, Ed, said she was an instructor at the church for eighth grade students preparing for the sacrament of confirmation.
Ed Kasuba retired in 2008 as the South Jersey bureau chief for KYW NewsRadio after a 33-year career there, and was communications director for the Delaware River Port Authority from 2008 to 2012.
Born in Chicago, Mrs. Kasuba earned a bachelor's degree in history at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1968.
A homemaker, Mrs. Kasuba was a scripture reader at Masses at Christ the Redeemer Parish in Atco in the 1990s and 2000s, her husband said.
She also distributed Communion at Masses there and for the homebound in her parish.
"She was giving, caring, a joyful person who loved her family," her husband said.
Mrs. Kasuba was a member of the social and clubhouse committees at their over-55 community, Four Seasons at Millville, where she was a staff member for its newsletter.
Joan Kelly, a neighbor there, said she had met the Kasubas when they arrived in May 2012. "The minute we met," she said of Mrs. Kasuba, "it was an instant friendship, because that's the kind of person she was."
When the effects of chemotherapy became evident, Kelly said, "she handled it with such grace and dignity."
Besides her husband, Mrs. Kasuba is survived by daughters Katherine Fucetola and Kristine, a brother, two sisters, and six grandchildren.
A viewing has been set from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at Assumption Church, 318 Carl Hasselhan Dr., Atco, N.J. 08004, before a Funeral Mass there at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Cedar Brook.
Donations may be sent to Christ the Redeemer Parish at the above church address.
