NO ONE WAS going to stiff any of the banks that Clyde Williams worked for. He was a guy with a keen eye for spotting fraud.

He could catch a money-laundering scheme before it got started, and saved his banks a ton of money in a career that began in the late '70s.

He was associated with four banking institutions, most recently as an anti-money laundering analyst for HSBC Bank in New Castle, Del.

Clyde Williams, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, avid traveler and an organizer of his extended family's reunions, died June 12. He was 65 and lived in Germantown.

Clyde was a far cry from the image many people might have of a banker, serious-minded and maybe a bit stuffy. Clyde knew how to have fun.

He never traveled without his golf clubs, whether it was to such destinations as Spain, the Caribbean or Hot Springs, Va. As long as there was a golf course available, Clyde was there.

He also was a skilled skier who took his passion to the snowy hills of Utah, Colorado and Vermont. He won a trophy in 1988 as an advanced skier.

He was a member of the Blazers Ski Club of Philadelphia, part of the National Brotherhood of Skiers.

And then there was fishing — deep-sea and freshwater — which he often practiced with his good friend, Greg Fleming. He and his brother, Richard, liked to go to local recreation centers to knock the baseball around.

Clyde loved hanging out with pals from "back in the day," as he put it, like Fleming, Robert Morgan, Stanley Clark, Craig Lindon and Jackie Lawrence.

He also had a love for family activities and was a 25-year member and former president of the Williams Family Club.

Clyde was born in Philadelphia the youngest of the four children of Clarence and Bessie Williams. He graduated from Germantown High School in 1968. He went on to the Institue for ComputerManagement, receiving a diploma in applied computer programming systems and procedures for business in 1969.

He was baptized at Grace Baptist Church of Germantown.

Clyde and a group of friends joined the Army in 1969, and he served in Vietnam.

After his discharge, he attended Peirce Junior College and earned an associate's degree in 1974. He continued his education at La Salle University where he earned his bachelor's degree in business administration in 1978.

Clyde met Gloria Reddick in January 1969 at Grace Baptist Church of Germantown. They were married on Oct. 11, 1975. She often accompanied him on his travels.

Besides his wife and brother, he is survived by a sister, Barbara White. He was predeceased by another brother, Ronald.
