A holiday party at Sesame Place
Sesame Place opens this weekend for a holiday party, offering visitors a day of amusement and performances. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday, the park will open several rides for kids to enjoy, including Grover's World Twirl, the Sunny Day Carousel, Cookie Mountain, Big Bird's Court, Ernie's Bed Bounce, Snuffy's Slides, and Nets 'n' Climbs. Each day, the party will feature the show "A Sesame Street Christmas" inside the Monster Rock Theater and the Rock Around the Block Parade. Kids can see how different cultures celebrate the holidays at the park's new show, "Elmo's World Live Christmas." Characters will make appearances throughout the day.
North Pole Express
Families can take a trip with Santa and Mrs. Claus this weekend on the New Hope and Ivyland Railroad's North Pole Express.
On the special holiday train ride departing Friday through Sunday, Santa will visit with each child and give him a gift. During the hour-long round-trip, families can enjoy hot cocoa and cookies while local musicians perform and sing Christmas carols. The train departs every 90 minutes beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Holiday Downtown Open House and Parade
On Friday, Historic Kennett Square presents its annual Holiday Downtown Open House and Parade.
The parade will begin at 6 p.m., and both Santa and Mrs. Claus will light the Christmas tree. Hog Island N.Y.A., the Philadelphia Mummers Parade's 2009 and 2010 Fancy Division champions, will strut in the procession. After the parade, kids can meet with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Sunrise Cafe and Tea Room, 127 E. State St. Businesses will also stay open late for families to shop.
