Washington Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall said Tuesday he has sprained ligaments in the back of his right ankle and could miss the rest of training camp.

"I can't put any pressure on it. It's kind of funky. I've never had this particular injury before," Hall said. "It could take a couple of days, it could take a couple of weeks, so they're cool with me just sitting down for now and give it time to rest and heal up."

Hall wore an immobilizing boot as he watched practice. He was hurt Monday when he lost his footing trying to defend rookie free agent receiver Skye Dawson, who has been one of the surprise standouts of camp.

"The young guy, he ran a great route," Hall said. "Coming out of my break, something just gave out."

Hall said he initially thought he tore a ligament. He said there is no fracture, and that his Achilles tendon is fine.

"A lot of guys were joking, 'Yeah, you wanted a day off.' I'm like, 'Yeah, I wanted a day off, but not like this,' " he said.

The Eagles' opening day opponent will be crippled defensively. Hall becomes the fourth Redskins defensive player to suffer a significant setback since the opening of camp. Defensive end Adam Carriker had a third surgery on his right knee and is expected to be sidelined another four to five months. Linebacker Keenan Robinson is out at least three months with a torn left pectoral muscle, and defensive end Jarvis Jenkins was hit with a four-game suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.

Colts lose a big one

Colts tackle Brandon McKinney was placed on injured reserve, costing the team one big piece of its rebuilt defensive line.

The 345-pound McKinney was lost one day after coach Chuck Pagano said he had swelling in his surgically repaired left knee. McKinney spent all of last season on injured reserve, too, after injuring the knee during a preseason game.

To replace McKinney, the Colts pulled linebacker C.O. Prime off waivers. Prime had been waived earlier to make room for another linebacker, Josh McNary, who was cleared to start practicing after serving a two-year stint in the Army.

Hernandez watch

Police divers have returned for a second day of searching in a lake in the Connecticut hometown of Aaron Hernandez, the former New England Patriots player who is charged with murder.

Authorities have declined to comment on the search at Pine Lake, a 54-acre man-made lake in Bristol, except to confirm it is related to the Hernandez investigation.

Authorities believe Lloyd was killed with a .45-caliber Glock, which hasn't been recovered.

Divers spent eight hours Monday at the lake, which has an average depth of 41/2 feet and is 12 feet at its deepest point.

Texans sign hard hitter

Houston has signed free agent Joe Mays after the linebacker was suspended and fined last season for a hit on Texans quarterback Matt Schaub.

Mays knocked Schaub's helmet off and the star QB lost a chunk of his left ear on the play during Houston's 31-25 victory over the Denver Broncos on Sept. 23. Mays was fined $50,000 and suspended for one game. Schaub has said the hit was "water under the bridge."
