Former Phillies lefthander John Lannan agreed to a minor-league contract with the New York Mets and is expected to compete for the fifth starter's job at spring training, the team said Monday.
The 29-year-old pitcher was 3-6 with a 5.33 ERA in 14 starts for the Phillies last season. He was sidelined from April 17 to June 17 by a strained tendon in his left knee and did not pitch after Aug. 14 because of chronic tendinitis that needed surgery.
Lannan has a 45-58 record and a 4.12 ERA in seven big-league seasons.
New York also settled its arbitration case with righthander Dillon Gee, agreeing to a one-year contract worth $3.625 million. First baseman-outfielder Lucas Duda is the last New York player remaining in arbitration.
Brewers sign Overbay
The Milwaukee Brewers signed Lyle Overbay to a minor-league contract, making him the latest candidate for the team's first-base job.
Overbay will be invited to big-league camp in spring training next month.
The lefthanded Overbay hit .240 with 14 homers and 59 RBIs in 142 games for the Yankees last season. He returns to Milwaukee, where he played two seasons starting in 2004. His 53 doubles that year are a single-season franchise record.
Overbay joins Mark Reynolds and Juan Francisco as potential options at first for Milwaukee.
