Slippery Rock pitcher Lou Trivino, a graduate of Upper Bucks Christian School, was the 341st player selected in the Major League Baseball first-year player draft when the Oakland Athletics picked him in the 11th round on Saturday.

Trivino was the second Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference player of seven selected in the draft, behind only Mansfield pitcher Nick Keener, the 10th-round pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Trivino has one collegiate season of eligibility remaining but is expected to sign a professional contract in the next few days. He compiled a 7-5 record this spring with a 1.83 ERA and set school single-season (92) and career (227) strikeout records.

Also selected was Millersville's Tim Mayza, an Upper Perkiomen graduate. The junior all-American pitcher was picked by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 12th round.

West Chester junior Joe Gunkel, a righthanded pitcher, was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 18th round (533d).

Mercyhurst shortstop Zak Blair was selected as the second pick of the 20th round (588) by the Chicago Cubs.

California (Pa.) standout Kyle Petty was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 23d round, 687th overall.

East Stroudsburg second baseman Joe Bennie was taken by the Oakland Athletics in the 28th round. Bennie, who led the Warriors to the PSAC championship in his only season at ESU after transferring from La Salle, was the 851st pick in the draft.

The seven PSAC players taken in the draft were the most PSAC draft selections since 2000 and one short of the conference record of eight, set in 1969.

St. Joseph's pitcher Jimmy Yacabonis, a junior, was selected in the 13th round by the Baltimore Orioles (399th overall).
