Source: Temple cut from Big 12 expansion field
A Temple source said that the school "hasn't heard either way" about whether it is a candidate for possible expansion by the Big 12.
A Temple source said that the school "hasn't heard either way" about whether it is a candidate for possible expansion by the Big 12.
That was in response to a story by the Associated Press, which reported through sources that the Big 12 has narrowed the field of candidates for possible expansion to 11 schools, with Memphis and Temple among the latest to be cut from consideration.
Temple is aware of the story, and the source said the Big 12 has not contacted the school about a decision.
ESPN was first to report the field had been cut, with Memphis and Temple out of consideration.
The AP reported that Big 12 officials are planning to hold a meeting in the Dallas area next week with BYU, Air Force, Central Florida, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Colorado State, Houston, Rice, SMU, South Florida and Tulane.
Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby declined comment in a text message to AP.
