Temple hosting football recruits

Albany University punter Paul Layton and several members of Temple's 2013 recruiting class are taking official visits to North Broad Street this weekend.

Albany University punter Paul Layton and several members of Temple's 2013 recruiting class are taking official visits to North Broad Street this weekend.

Williamtown linebacker Buddy Brown and Elizabeth (NJ) quarterback P.J. Walker won't attend because of participating in NJSIAA playoff games.

All 12 high school seniors in Temple's 2013 recruiting class plan to honor their commitments despite the departure of head coach Steve Addazio. Addazio resigned Tuesday to accept the head-coaching position at Boston College.

"I committed to Temple, not Addazio," Montour defensive tackle Tyler Haddock said.

There's a chance Layton will commit to Owls this weekend.

Layton, who has one season of eligibility left, will receive a business administration degree from Albany next weekend.  The Central New York-based university is a Football Championship Subdivision program. Layton wants to transfer to a Football Bowl Subdivision team to enhance his NFL prospects.

Layton will be granted immediate eligibility since he'll be a graduate student. He intends to get a master's degree in business adminstration. Temple has offered him a scholarship.

"I'm not committed right now," Layton said, "but hopefully after the weekend."

Layton led the Northeast Conference in punting with an average of 41 yards.
