DT Landri hopes to remain with Birds

INDIANAPOLIS - The agent for defensive tackle Derek Landri planned to meet with the Eagles on Friday night and said his client would like to remain with the team.

The Eagles have also expressed interest in bringing Landri back, said his agent, Harold C. Lewis.

Of course, the desire on each side hinges on getting terms that are mutually pleasing, but that should be a far easier task if they both want the same thing. (No deal, though, can be signed until after the new league year starts on March 13).

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman stopped short of saying he expects Landri back when he spoke to reporters Thursday, but made it clear that he thought Landri made valuable contributions.

Landri was cut after an impressive preseason but returned when Antonio Dixon got hurt and made plays as a rotational lineman.

Asante Samuel's agent, Alonzo Shavers, couldn't say much about the corner's future or any potential trades involving the four-time Pro Bowler.

"Nothing is imminent," Shavers said, arguing that even with a raise up to $9.4 million in 2012, Samuel would be worth it and the Eagles can afford him.

"Philly's got money," he said. "Did they change owners?"

Of course, the Eagles might point out that they also have another expensive cornerback, Nnamdi Asomugha, signed long-term, and a cheaper corner available in Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

The team struggled to mesh Samuel with Asomugha and Rodgers-Cromartie last season and, after trying to trade Samuel last year, many think they will go that route again this offseason, freeing up salary cap space and playing time.

John Elway, the Broncos vice president, said ex-Eagles safety Brian Dawkins faces a difficult decision on his future in the NFL after missing time last season with a neck injury.

"I know that he is probably going through a tough time, having been a football player, how hard it is to make that decision when you're getting close to the end of your career, whether you want to play or not."

Elway said he had not yet spoken with Dawkins about his future.

Penn State's Derek Moye, a rangy 6-foot-4 receiver, said the combine is "something that you can't really prepare yourself for, honestly."

He described his initial interviews as a "free-for-all," with coaches asking all types of questions.

Moye, who touted his size as his biggest asset but said he needs to build his strength, is scheduled to do the bench press Saturday and run for scouts Sunday. ... Fellow Nittany Lion Devon Still, a defensive tackle expected to go in the first round, is expected to meet reporters Saturday. ... Temple running back Bernard Pierce should begin workouts this weekend as well.
