Eagles Notes: McCoy breaks Montgomery's rushing mark

ARLINGTON, Texas - LeSean McCoy etched his name into the Eagles record book on Sunday night by setting the franchise record for rushing yards in a season. He also became the first Eagles running back to win the NFL rushing title in 64 years.

McCoy needed 37 yards to break Wilbert Montgomery's record of 1,512 set in 1979. He reached that on a 17-yard run in the second quarter against the Cowboys. McCoy finished the game with 131 yards on 27 carries and 1,607 yards for the season.

If McCoy hadn't played, he still would have led the NFL in rushing. He entered the game with a lead and added to it with his strong performance. He became the first Eagles running back to accomplish the feat since Steve Van Buren rushed for 1,146 yards in 1949.

The Eagles set an NFL record, for most plays of 20-plus yards in a season (a statistic that has been kept since 1995), breaking the record of 96 set by the St. Louis Rams in 2001. The Eagles broke it with Nick Foles' 35-yard pass to Brent Celek in the second quarter.

They also set a team record for net yards in a season, topping the 6,386 yards they accumulated in 2011.

Safety Earl Wolff was inactive for Sunday's game because of a knee injury even though he practiced all week. Wolff reinjured his knee in last Sunday's win over the Chicago Bears. Patrick Chung continued to start in Wolff's absence.

The Eagles had the same starting lineup that they had in the season opener against Washington. It marked the first time that the same five offensive linemen had started every game of the season since 2006.

Center Julian Vandervelde (back) and safety Colt Anderson (knee) were declared out and were inactive. The other inactive players were quarterback Matt Barkley, cornerback Curtis Marsh, running back Matthew Tucker, and tackle Dennis Kelly.

Safety Kurt Coleman returned to the lineup after missing the Bears game with a hamstring injury. Tackle Matt Tobin was active for the second time this season.

Wide receiver Jason Avant suffered a bruised right shoulder in the second quarter but returned in the third.

The Eagles will play home games against the Cowboys, Giants, Redskins, Seahawks, Rams, Jaguars, Titans, and Panthers. They will play road games against the Cowboys, Giants, Redskins, Seahawks, Rams, Texans, Colts, and Packers.
