Eagles to replace public address announcer Dan Baker

Dan Baker, the Eagles' public address announcer of 29 years, has been let go by the team.

"Dan is the ultimate professional and even though he was disappointed with the direction we are heading, he was accepting of our decision to make the change," team president Don Smolenski said in a press release. "We are very appreciative of his dedication and service. He never missed a single game."

That press release stated that the Eagles "decided to make a change in the role and told Baker about the new direction last week." It also stated that "as the game day experience continues to evolve with expanded audio and visual enhancements, the game-telling experience is no longer the responsibility of a single person."

As such, the Eagles could end up with more than one announcer in the stadium.

"It is a true multi-media experience," Smolenski said. He cited the evolution of football into a modern, more multi-faceted game as the primary reason the team chose to move on.

The Eagles have involved an outside agency to aid with their search for a replacement.

"I want to thank Mr. Lurie, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the fans for the privilege of announcing 29 great years of Eagles football," said Baker. "It has truly been an honor."

The Eagles will recognize Baker for his work at their first game of the regular season, against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, September 7.

Baker will remain the public address announcer for the Phillies.
