Former Eagles player, coach Jimmy Carr dead at 79

Jimmy Carr, the starting left corner for the Eagles when they won the 1960 championship, died at the age of 79, the team announced. Carr, who would later become an Eagles assistant coach, passed away Monday morning in Fishers, Ind.
Carr spent nine seasons in the NFL with three teams -- the Cardinals, Eagles and Redskins. He spent five seasons in Philadelphia, including the magical 1960 season when he paired with All-Pro Tom Brookshier to give the Eagles a solid 1-2 punch at cornerback.
Carr finished his NFL playing career with 15 interceptions, 13 of which came with the Eagles. He also spent one season with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL.
After his retirement, he spent 24 seasons as an assistant coach with a number of teams. He served as the Eagles defensive coordinator from 1970-71.
Carr, who played collegiately at Morris Harvey (now the University of Charleston) was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1962. He is survived by his wife, Lila, their two children, Ken and Gwen, and seven grandchildren.
