Eagles release CB Dwayne Gratz; place DT Beau Allen, CB Sidney Jones on non-football injury list
The Eagles made some roster moves before opening training camp on Monday.
The Eagles released cornerback Dwayne Gratz on Sunday and placed defensive tackle Beau Allen and cornerback Sidney Jones on the active/non-football injury list. They also officially signed quarterback Dane Evans, finalizing a few procedural moves on the eve of the first practice of training camp.
The Eagles will take the field Monday morning with rookies, quarterbacks, and selected veterans. The first full-team session is Thursday.
Gratz, 27, joined the Eagles roster last December and was with the team throughout the spring. He offered starting experience from earlier in his career in Jacksonville, but he could not ascend on the depth chart during the offseason program. Beyond the top options at cornerback, returning players Aaron Grymes and C.J. Smith stood out this spring.
Allen and Jones are both recovering from injuries that will keep them out this summer. Allen suffered a pectoral injury while training in April, and Jones tore his Achilles tendon at his Pro Day in March. Their roster designations allow them to return to practice at any time in training camp, although that's not expected to happen. Their roster status could change as the season approaches and the Eagles must pare their roster to 53 players.
Evans will be the team's fourth quarterback. The undrafted rookie from Tulsa tried out for the Eagles during the spring. He is behind Carson Wentz, Nick Foles, and Matt McGloin.
