Gostisbehere, selected by the Flyers in the third round of the 2012 draftm will sit out the USA's quarterfinal game against the Czech Republic on Wednesday.
After a review, the IIHF Disciplinary Panel determined that Gostisbehere skated up behind Slovakia's Matus Matis and forcefully drove his stick between Matis' legs, striking him in the groin area. Matis fell to the ice, injured on the play, but he did return.
Gostisbehere was assessed a major penalty plus game misconduct. The Disciplinary Panel deemed the action to be reckless.
