BOYS' BASKETBALL

Team Record

Preseason rankings are in parentheses. Records through Sunday.

1. Neumann-Goretti (1) 1-0

As Cardinal Dougherty learned in a 96-50 thumping, the Saints have many pieces to what could be a Class AAA state championship puzzle.

2. Penn Wood (2) 3-0

The Patriots survived a one-point scare with Southern. Expect them to pass another test in tonight's home game against Monsignor Bonner.

3. Roman Catholic (3) 1-1

The Cahillites will be on full display tomorrow through Dec. 23 in the 36th annual City of Palms Tournament in Fort Myers, Fla. Roman tips off the tourney with a matchup against Jacksonville's Arlington County Day.

4. Pennsbury (4) 2-0

Everyone is Southeastern Pennsylvania knows the Falcons' Dalton Pepper can flat out shoot the rock. We are learning that he's one of the area's most consistent players, scoring 23 points in both of Pennsbury's games.

5. Chester(10) 3-0

Don't listen to first-year coach Larry Yarbray saying this is a rebuilding year. His young Clippers are good enough to challenge for another Del-Val League title. Look out, Penn Wood.

6. Friends' Central (NR) 7-0

Penn Charter transfer Travis Robinson is fitting in nicely. The junior guard and sophomore guard Devon Coleman have developed into one of the region's top scoring tandems.

7. Conestoga (NR) 4-0

Can anyone stop Jake Cohen? The Pioneers' senior center took a 20.5 points-per-game average into this week's games.

8. Imhotep Charter (6) 4-1

Prep Charter transfer Parrish Grant brings state championship-game winning experience to the Panthers. Once it gets in rhythm, Imhotep will be hard to beat on the Class AA level.

9. Germantown Academy (7) 5-1

Junior guard Cameron Ayers and senior post player Jeff Holton give the Patriots one of the area's best guard-center combinations. The duo will present matchup problems for Inter-Ac League foes.

10. Norristown (NR) 2-0

So how good are the reigning Class AAAA state runners-up? The Eagles have beaten this season's opponents by an average of 33 points. But their first real test comes Saturday against Imhotep. Stay tuned.

Under consideration (listed alphabetically):

Archbishop Carroll (3-0), North Catholic (1-1), Prep Charter (3-1), Southern (3-3), Strawberry Mansion (4-0).
