Dock rallies to shock Central Columbia in AA

Faced with two outs and no base runners in the top of the seventh inning of a tie game, Christopher Dock rallied for two runs and stunned Central Columbia, 6-4, in the quarterfinals of the PIAA state Class AA softball tournament on Thursday at Hershey.

Keli Krause pitched the win with four strikeouts and one walk, and also drove in the winning run, putting the Pioneers in the state semifinals for the first time. Christopher Dock lost in the quarterfinals a year ago.

In the seventh, Megan Bolton started the rally with her third hit of the game and scored on Krause's triple over the centerfielder's head.

Krause scored an insurance run on Olivia Bradford's single, the Pioneers' 10th hit of the game.

Leadoff hitter Rachel Ryder, the only senior in Christopher Dock's starting lineup, went 2 for 4.

The Pioneers (20-4) will face Brandywine Heights, a 4-3 winner over Elk Lake, on Monday at a site to be determined.

Class AAA. After scoring a run in the seventh inning to tie the game, Lansdale Catholic bowed out of the state tournament, 5-4, when District 3 champ Manheim Central (25-4) scored a run in the bottom of the eighth.

Kelly Schoener, who had two hits and a run batted in for the District 12 champion Crusaders (15-6), tied the game in the seventh on a ground ball by Kailyn Wunder.

In the eighth, Manheim's Sam Ginter singled in Shelby Smith with the deciding run.

Class AAAA. District 1 champion Hatboro-Horsham (22-2) dominated District 4 winner Williamsport, 11-0, in a state tournament quarterfinal game at Hershey.

Class A. Bristol's season ended with a 5-0 shutout loss to District 11 champ Minersville at Allentown's Patriots Park.

Minersville will face Wyalusing in the state semifinals after Wyalusing disposed of Old Forge, 10-0.

Dan Reber's two-run homer provided the best highlight for Calvary Christian in an 8-3 loss to Reading Central Catholic in the PIAA state Class A tournament quarterfinals at Easton.

Reber homered to left-center field in the top of the first inning to give the District 1 champion Cougars a brief lead before RCC came back with two runs in each of the first two innings and three more in the fourth.

Jesse Geisler added two hits for Calvary Christian, which ended its season with a 14-10 record.

Nick Demagnone had two doubles and scored twice for Reading Central Catholic, which will play Muncy, a 7-0 winner over Salisbury Elk Lick, in Monday's semifinals.
